In Fog We Trust
Wikipedia: "The famous fog of San Francisco, California is a specific case of sea fog. Sea fog is a specific type of advection fog, which is characterized by the lateral transfer of temperature by wind blowing over cooler water. The water is often cool enough to lower the temperature of the air to the dewpoint, causing fog generation."
There are three basic ways to approach the fog in San Francisco ➜
➊ Escape! In a city famous for "microclimates", newcomers can often leave the fog by car, Muni, BART, bike, if not by foot - without even leaving the city.
Moving to the east or north► (towards the bay or Marin, not the ocean) is a good rule of thumb. Going to a higher elevation can work too (especially north), and sometimes provides stunning cloudscapes.

➋ More coffee! This is actually #1 for many folks, but that's life in the big (?) city.
➌ Embrace! Escape can prove impossible, and coffee only goes so far. Sometimes San Franciscans and visitors must breathe the fog in deeply, tickle their throats with cold dewy air, and tease their eyes with the faint smear of light where color used to be... and, sometimes, do it again tomorrow!
Even traditionally clear-sky destinations like the Golden Gate Bridge and Twin Peaks often take on a dramatic (!) new character when the fog rolls in. Put on a jacket, and enjoy it :)
